Can you believe it is already September? We can’t either, but we are especially excited for this month’s birthstone: the beautiful sapphire!
Here is just a little background information on the stone we all love so much. Sapphires are corundum mineral. While red corundum stones are regarded as rubies, every other color within the corundum spectrum -from orange to green- are deemed sapphires. Blue sapphires are the most common and can range in color from subtly light sky blue to intensely deep indigo.
Sapphires also have a huge history with royalty. Who doesn't love that? Prince Charles gave Lady Diana that beautiful engagement ring. You can now see that ring on the gorgeous Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Another famous sapphire, St. Edward’s sapphire, rests on the Imperial State Crown which can be found on display at the Jewel House in the Tower of London.
